A thoughtful essay on software engineering as a craft: building vs consuming, overcoming plateaus, compounding knowledge over decades, and avoiding burnout.
In software development, libraries, frameworks, and syntax trends evolve continuously. Developers who tie their identity to a specific framework often experience burnout when industry preferences shift. In contrast, viewing programming as a lifelong engineering craft anchors your career in fundamental principles that compound over decades.

Technology will continue to transform how we write code, but the essence of software engineering—translating ambiguous human problems into resilient, deterministic systems—remains a deeply rewarding, lifelong intellectual craft.
